Emergency Management
City Ordinance - Emergency Management
The City of Sweeny Office of Emergency Management
was created on March 1, 1983 by the passing of City Ordinance No.
317. To view the Emergency Management Ordinance,

The City of Sweeny has an extensive Emergency Management Plan addressing the
mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery phases of civil preparedness.
This plan has continually been updated since its inception in 1983.
Homeland Security Concerns
Because of Homeland Security concerns, the City of
Sweeny is evaluating its Emergency Management Plan and the release of
information on this Web site. The City of Sweeny embraces the
idea of releasing public information on this Web site as a service to
the city and the surrounding community. However, in the
post-9/11 era of homeland security and public safety, releasing
certain sections of this Plan to the public may jeopardize the City's
safety and its ability to effectively respond and defend the City in
terrorist-based scenarios.
Sweeny is an unlikely target of terrorism, however, it can not be ruled out
as a possibility, especially since one of the new ideas of extreme Islamic
terrorists is to attack and reek havoc in smaller American cities where
security is likely more relaxed than in metropolitan areas.
