Mayor's Office
Welcome to the Mayor's office.
We have
chronicled the history of the mayor's office in the City of Sweeny below.
Mayor's Message
"With
a small town ambience and big city convenience, Sweeny, Texas,
is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in Brazoria County.
Situated slightly off the beaten path, near the San Bernard
River in the Western most reaches of Brazoria County, Sweeny
enjoys the natural beauty and rural atmosphere prized by so
many, yet is only one-and-a-half hours from the heart of Houston,
the largest city in Texas, and less than one hour's drive from
the beaches of Galveston, Surfside, and Matagorda.
There are excellent
employment opportunities offered by nearby major corporations
and their supporting business partners.
Unlike other cities of comparable size, Sweeny has a Community
Hospital which has recently completed a major expansion/renovation
project which includes a state-of-the-art assisted living facility.
Our
Independent School District has a long history of outstanding
academic achievement and athletic prowess. The high school
campus has just completed a major renovation, greatly expanding
student capacity. The elementary and intermediate campuses
are less than 15 years old and are in excellent condition with
respect to both student capacity and overall facility condition.
There
are three junior colleges in close proximity to Sweeny which offer
Associate Degrees in academic fields and Certificates in
occupational-technical fields providing a well-rounded
workforce. One offers a 4-year degree program which confers the
degree of "Bachelor of Applied Technology with an Industrial
Management Major."
We have churches of all denominations, and
our residential
areas offer both moderate and upscale housing. Lastly, our City Government
is responsive to the needs of
our citizens. In short, Sweeny is a great community in which to
live, work and raise a family.
So, if you are contemplating a change, check us out!"
