Born in West Columbia,
Texas in 1945, Mr. Weems is a 1963 Graduate of Sweeny
High School, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration from William Carey College, Hattiesburg,
Mississippi in 1972. Later, he earned a Masters Degree
in Personnel Management from Central Michigan University
in 1982.
Mr. Weems enlisted in
the United States Air Force in 1966 attaining the rank
of Staff Sergeant before being accepted for Officer
Training School upon successful completion of college
requirements. He received his commission as a Second
Lieutenant in August, 1972. He retired March 1, 1995 as
a Lieutenant Colonel serving at a total of 11 different
duty locations.
Although he served in many locations, Sweeny was his
home of record during his military career, and upon
retiring from the Air Force, he returned to Sweeny with
his wife Billie. He has owned and successfully operated
an insurance agency for the past 10+ years. First
elected to Council in 2006, he ran and was elected to
serve the 1-year unexpired term of Mayor in May 2008. |
