Pending any further development on Tropical Storm Bill and the remnants, no further updates shall follow this message.

 

Sweeny is still calm with periodic light rain and wind.  There have been brief periods of heavy rain and strong winds.  There have been no reports of flooding.  We have seen several downed tress and limbs scattered throughout the city and a few brief periods of utility service outages.  All roadways are clear and service have been restored.

The following are warnings and watches issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) that are in effect for Brazoria County:

Hurricane Safety & Preparedness IconTropical System Bill --- UPDATE!

Here are some updated RADAR images.  Tropical Storm Bill officially made landfall at 11:45 AM today 20 miles south of Port O'Connor on Matagorda Island (between Rockport and Port Lavaca).  The maximum sustained winds were 60 MPH.

 

Sweeny is still calm with light rain and a slight breeze.  There have been brief periods of heavy rain and strong winds.  There have been no reports of flooding.  We have seen several downed tress and limbs scattered throughout the city, but no loss of utility services.  Police and Public Works crews remain active in the city to keep roadways free of debris and passable for motorists.

Hurricane Safety & Preparedness IconTropical System Bill --- UPDATE!

Landfall is expected within the hour near Matagorda Bay.  Maximum sustained winds are at 60 MPH.  The storm is still tracking northwest at 13 MPH.  Sweeny is experiencing only light rain and a mild breeze.  No flooding has been reported.  No loss of power or other services have been reported.

 

 

EVACUATION ORDERS

There are no evacuation orders at present.  This storm is only expected to be a rain/flood event.

 

FORECAST

The storm is expected to make landfall early Tuesday morning near the Matagorda Bay.  Rainfall amounts between 3-10 inches and wind gusts as high as 50 MPH are expected.

 

SECURE YOUR PROPERTY!

Please bring inside or secure your outdoor property, such as chairs, tables, trash bins, or anything else that could be picked up by the wind and thrown as a projectile.

Invest 91-L (Tropical Storm Bill?)

Hurricane Safety & Preparedness IconTropical System Invest 91-L, the potentially second tropical system of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season, may form in the Gulf of Mexico later this afternoon or later tonight.  Currently, there is no defined eye and sustained winds are less then 40 MPH.  The forecast track has the storm tracking to the Texas coast, making landfall somewhere near Matagorda Bay on Tuesday morning, June 16, 2015.
