Public Works

The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining and managing the City’s streets, sidewalks, water systems, sewer systems, and natural gas systems.  They perform the following tasks:

• Maintenance of City owned property and buildings
• Maintenance of City parks and playgrounds within the City of Sweeny
• Maintenance of City streets, alleys, sidewalks, and other public right-of-ways
• Maintenance of trees, grass, shrubs, and other landscaping on City property
• General setup, traffic control, and clean up of civic events
• Local street maintenance including road grading, traffic signs
• Oversees the supply, storage, and distribution of drinking water
• Maintenance of the City’s water system and wastewater collection system
• Maintenance of the drainage system
• Oversees the supply, storage, and distribution of natural gas
• Maintenance of City owned equipment
• Code enforcement
